At Kearney First UMC we believe that life-change happens best in small groups where people can honestly share their hopes and their struggles as they grow in faith together. There is a huge need in all of us to connect...to belong to an authentic and caring community. That's what our Small Group ministry is all about. Here are some of the opportunities that are currently being offered.
If you'd like information about what's currently happening with any of the following small groups, just get in touch with us (628-5560 or office@kearneyfumc.org) and we'll connect you with a contact person who will have some answers for you.
Small Group Semesters
We usually offer two "semesters" of small group experiences in the Fall and Spring each year. These experiences typically last 6-13 weeks. The studies are varied each semester and we use excellent material to guide our conversations and deepen our relationships with Christ and with each other. Current offerings: Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, and Pilgrim's Progress.
Ongoing Studies/Spiritual Growth We have some ongoing Bible studies and regular groups that meet throughout the year. We'd love to get you connected with one of these groups. If you would like a systematic plan for reading through the Bible click here.
Couples Ministry
Contact Person:
Our Couples Ministry meets regularly for the purpose of offering solid teaching to strengthen marriages and families. We believe it's also important for Christian couples to connect with each other for mutual fellowship and support. We're currently engaged in a series entitled Your Time Starved Marriage.
Singles Ministry
Contact Person: Loree Wohlfarth
Our Singles Ministry has recently been launched, so it's still in the "infancy" stage and will be shaped by the needs of people who desire to connect with other singles through this ministry.
Celebrate Recovery Group
Our Celebrate Recovery addiction recovery and support group meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of helping those dealing with drug and alcohol issues.
Adult Mission Opportunities
Contact Persons: John Howard (Associate Pastor)
Throughout the year we offer opportunities for adults to participate in hands-on mission projects. These mission projects involve work locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. The relationships that are developed and nurtured are at least as important as the work that's accomplished. If you'd be interested in serving, just let us know.
Recreational Groups
Sunday Night "Volleyball" Group
During the Summer and early Fall months a group of adults meet at our new sand-pit volleyball court on the east-side of our church campus to enjoy an evening of volleyball and fellowship. We've also recently completed "Shepherd's Field", our new baseball/softball field and will be offering recreational activities there on a regular basis.
